For most people of color in the United States, racism shapes our everyday lives. In the eyes of the, often, racist institutions that we are subjected to, class does not overlook race; even superstar Serena Williams, has been subjected to these prejudices. The outrageous statistics of infant mortality rates and complications during birth of black women versus white women is a perfect model of the injustices that black people face in America. Racism is so central to America that even our doctors, the people we turn to when we are at our most vulnerable, are predisposed to intolerance. And their intolerance is the most dangerous. Their intolerance, however minor it manifests, leads to the death of our parents and children, and, by extension, our future.
