For a long time, I have thought it strange that America loves and idolizes FDR. Hailed as the man who saved us from the terrors of the Great Depression, the inconceivable cruelty of the Japanese internment camps seems to be airbrushed out of history, much like slavery is in high school textbooks. How could a country who prides itself on its diversity and rich history of immigrants not come to terms with the atrocities committed to the Japanese during WWII? America loves heroes and fairy tales more than it loves the truth. Whilst they are willing to soil a great man's reputation with a trivial flaw, they are unwilling to surrender their hero due to many.
