Dear Ms Simone:
Just like other 300 million fans of yours, I really appreciate the pieces you’ve composed. The lyrics you’ve written seem to be the literary work created by life itself. Most of them include only daily subjects and extreme oral expressions but convey much more compelling information and stronger emotion than those who constantly apply ornate language and ambiguous sentences. Songs such as “Mississippi goddam” and “ain’t got no - I got life” certainly became a unique type of spiritual guides for black people during those tough periods. Yet acting almost like repelling the whole white group is not fair. I understand the sense of responsibility you’ve perceived, but referring the black as “the best race” is apparently not the most appropriate way to advocate for social justice. If you deal with the issues in a softer way, will you perhaps also suffer less yourself? However, no matter how much pain it has brought, the mark you’ve left on yourself, and at the same time in the world, will be an eternal legacy.
