The formation of America is the result of immigration. Yet what lead to the current faint concept in numerous people’s mind that it is the European American group who represents an American identity rather than a combination of European Americans, Native Americans, African Americans, and Mexican Americans? This mindset results in the extreme difficulty of life for those minority race, which can be shown clearly through class construction. For instance, Mexican workers in the secondary sector usually receive lower wages. Meanwhile, culture immersion as well occurs in an inevitable way even though both Mexico and America culture are impermeable to some extent. While children of Mexican immigrants go to American school and get used to speak English, various organisations still help continue Mexican culture and language. Personally, I believe the ideal situation would be that the name received by all groups of US citizens are all “Americans”, while people still keep in mind of their own culture and history, but not equate their racial identity to a class or social status representation.
