To Father, From Lacey

Dear Father,

Recently, I’ve been feeling like you have been more distant than ever. I know that things have changed -- I found out that you’re not my biological father, and after years of searching for my identity, I finally found support in the black community. Although I identify as black now, I am still the Lacey that you’ve raised all these years. Being black is a significant part of who I am, but I feel that it shouldn’t impact our relationship. I still see you as my loving father, the one who’s been there for me for as long as I remember. I hope that you can accept me for who I am despite our differences, and I will forever see you as my true father.

 Love,
Lacey
