To Miss Elaine Wales

June 30, 1947
To Miss Elaine Wales:

Regarding your Jewish heritage, your name-change situation was recently brought to my attention by Phil Green's story-in-progress. I deeply regret that you had to take on a new name for your professional career at our magazine. I think you will be happy to hear, however, that the magazine will be revising our company policy to explicitly say that we will hire employees regardless of their religious beliefs.

On behalf of our efforts to combat the anti-Semitic attitudes so prevalent in these times, I'd like to ask you some questions to further the board's awareness of the challenges that the Jewish community faces. Have you had the same hiring experience at previous jobs? What other instances of prejudice have you experienced in your life?
