In Trespassers?, Lung-Amam includes many references to Asian American culture in the Silicon Valley, such as 99 Ranch, Chinatown, and the numerous shopping centers. I have lived in the Silicon Valley for most of my life, and elements of Asian culture are present almost everywhere I go. Added onto the significance of cultural presence in the area, the label of “model minorities” has helped Asian Americans become more accepted by white suburban communities. However, despite the high population of Asian Americans in the Silicon Valley and the seemingly easier process of integration, white suburbanites are still challenging the legal rights of Asian Americans. It is shocking that even in communities with relatively high percentages of middle-class Asian Americans, white people are still able to wield considerable power and block their social advancement.
